Here is a collection of some of my favorite stories from around the world. :)
Asclepios was the Greek god of medicine. He was the son of Apollo, the god of music, and Coronis, a princess! Born from a funeral pyre, Asclepios was taught many things about medicine from the centaur Chiron. However, he gained his greatest knowledge as a reward for helping out a snake. In return for his kindness, the snake whispered secret knowledge about healing and resurrection, and he became the world’s greatest healer! His skills surpassed even those of his father Apollo, a fully-fledged god! He went on saving people from the brink of death and even brought the dead back to life. Unfortunately, King Hades of the underworld complained to his brother Zeus that he was stealing his subjects, so Zeus struck Asclepios with a thunderbolt, killing him instantly. As an apology to Apollo for killing his son, Zeus placed Asclepios’s body among the stars, and that’s the origin of the constellation Ophiuchus!
